NGC - Must Watch Shows
February 21, 2008 by Balaji
Almost every show in National Geographic Channel is a must watch for people who like Science and Technology. But there are few new shows which I feel will benefit kids to understand and like science as a subject. I remember those days when my physics teacher used to take those boring classes and I ask a question to myself “What am I going to do learning this?”
These new shows gives a clear explanation for this question. Do watch and make your kids watch, I am sure they will also enjoy it.
Tuesdays between 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM - What would happen If?
I will give you a topic that they discussed and concluded in an episode. What if there was no friction in this universe? They were explaining about the pros and cons of it and said that we can’t live with zero friction in this world. I am sure that it might be obvious for some, but they give you scientific explanation for the same.
Tuesdays between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM - I didn’t know that
We use so many things every day and we are least bothered about the way they work. This show explains the working of many things that we use everyday and don’t know how they work. In two episode I’ve seen, they explained how a battery works, how glass is manufactured, how escalator works. Did you know that there are 30,000 escalators in the United States, with people using escalators 90,000,000,000 times per year as on 2004 [source]
Everyday between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM - Nat Geo Junior : Big Bang
This show is produced by the famous UK production house Granada Entertainment. This show explains science with a kiddish touch. I am sure no one will know everything those guys are talking about. It’s a must watch for kids (I know, most kids will be in school at that time).
These programs do get repeated several times a week. For more details on the timings, check http://www.nationalgeographic.co.in/watch/
