It has been a long time since I made my last post…. I have been a little busy with my work and haven’t been able to concentrate on blogging. I am a guy who believes in numbers and I am concerned about the number of Visitors to my blog, Comments, Spam comments and finally Page Rank. I was eager to know the Page Rank of my blog…. and checked it yesterday and was shocked to see my blog come off age. The Page Rank now is 5 for the home page and few posts also has a Page Rank of 4. Pretty Good, isn’t it?
I am a huge fan of Google and their technology and I have been following PageRank for a while. It took a long time for me to understand how it really works. Google describes PageRank:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.
You must be wondering how did this page manage to get a PageRank of 5, let me give you the reason why. Wikipedia give a better explanation about PageRank. Here is an excerpt of it:
Assume a small universe of four web pages: A, B, C and D. The initial approximation of PageRank would be evenly divided between these four documents. Hence, each document would begin with an estimated PageRank of 0.25.
In the original form of PageRank initial values were simply 1. This meant that the sum of all pages was the total number of pages on the web. Later versions of PageRank (see the below formulas) would assume a probability distribution between 0 and 1. Here we’re going to simply use a probability distribution hence the initial value of 0.25.
If pages B, C, and D each only link to A, they would each confer 0.25 PageRank to A. All PageRank PR( ) in this simplistic system would thus gather to A because all links would be pointing to A.
PR(A)= PR(B) + PR(C) + PR(D)
But then suppose page B also has a link to page C, and page D has links to all three pages. The value of the link-votes is divided among all the outbound links on a page. Thus, page B gives a vote worth 0.125 to page A and a vote worth 0.125 to page C. Only one third of D’s PageRank is counted for A’s PageRank (approximately 0.083).
This means that if my page is linked by pages containing heavier PageRank, then my page would also get a good PageRank. You might be wondering which of those heavily Ranked pages link to this page? I have an answer for that too. I have 246 tags until my last post, which means that I am linked by 249 pages from WordPress apart from the Blogroll and the Trackbacks.
If you did not get what I just mentioned, try accessing http://wordpress.com/tags/ by replacing with any word you can think of. The keyword is the tag itself. Out of the 246 pages (to which any post is linked to), atleast half of them have their PageRank between 5-10. Can this be called Spoofed PageRank? May be not….
PageRank™ is a registered TradeMark of Google Inc. To know more about PageRank, you may access the below links.

I recently subscribed to Offers Gallore, a blog with information about current offers in India. I got an email this morning from Offers Gallore about an offer from Future Bazaar “Kingston 512 pen drives for Rs. 99″. I know that it isn’t that cheap when compared to a 2GB drives which are available for Rs. 349 but this would be perfect when you want to gift someone something that is cheaper. Check Offers Gallore for details about this post.

I was browsing through Yahoo India and noticed something new and was excited to know that direction search for India is now available. It makes our life easy while travelling away from home town. I was looking for different routes in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai and found them to be working fine. It gives you the routes, direction with the distance, approximate auto fare and time, I am sure that the time wouldn’t be correct with growing traffic woes
Being a QA guy myself, I was testing if Yahoo maps is intelligent. I tried to search for the route between two locations in Chennai (Click Here to check that route) where there is a oneway. Yahoo Maps does consider one way roads while showin the routes. The onward journey shows one route and the reverse route shows a different one. You can also view the content in your regional language on the maps, interesting but not so useful feature.
This will be useful for people like me who live in other cities away from hometown. The images in Yahoo maps is not up to date like in Google Maps. I tried looking for directions within India in Google Maps and the feature isn’t available yet. Interesting! isn’t it?

Did you know that Apple and Mozilla are currently on a stand off with Apple’s iTunes’ updates pushing Safari.
John Lilly, the CEO of Mozilla foundation is not happy with it and made a post in his blog about this. Steve Jobs did not really say anything about John’s comments.
Instead, the Fake Steve Jobs made a post in his blog questioning the integrity of Mozilla Foundation. I would like to quote that “the former CEO of Mozilla Foundation Mitchell Baker was paid $500,000 for overseeing an army of freetard drones”. FSJ also questioned about the royalty being paid by Google to Mozilla Foundation. Check out FSJs blog, you will find a lot of interesting information.
I guess poor John did not have any better answer for FSJ’s questions and made another post in his blog.

After reading Adoholik’s post on Pulsar Mania, I thought even I would write something about this ad over the weekend. I was browsing channels yesterday like I always do and found a funny and SENSELESS ad on TV. Can you guess which one is it? Yes, I am talking about Headlines Today ad. The ad claims that all news channels read BLAH, BLAH, BLAH…… and they give Refreshingly Different news.
As far as I know, Headlines Today is a Gossip Channel than a News channel. I remember Dr. Abdul Kalam telling that the NEWS media’s support plays a key role in country’s development and it doesn’t seemed to have reached the brains of HT’s Management. They are more interested in Saif Ali Khan’s tattoo, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha’s fight than the events happening in the Country.
After I saw this ad, I was eager to know what have they done so refreshingly different to revive themselves. I switched over to that channel and saw Rakhi Sawant talking about some crap. The headlines being “Lebanese Girl Copied Rakhi” (and they call it EXCLUSIVE, how ridiculous?), I don’t know if this is what they call it NEWS! I even clicked a picture of my TV screen, but will put it up tomorrow.
If the HT’s management is reading this, I’ve got two words for you!

Thanks to feedburner for sending me posts by Weblog Tools Collection. I got a mail couple days back about the BoxTube theme. The theme was simple and elegant with some nice widgets built in.
I installed that theme to my personal blog and made it look as good as possible. I also managed to put some ads that blend with the theme. I don’t know if I would make any money at all, but the ads came along with the template. All I need to do was just to put my publisher ID. Now that my blog has a new look and feel, I want someone to visit my page.
Here is the link to my page….
